December 08, 2009, 4:21PMAttorneys for Sean Ramaley, a former lawmaker accused of taking a no-work job at ex-House Whip Mike Veon's Beaver Falls headquarters while running for office in 2004, called a series of witnesses to the stand today to testify to Ramaley's honesty and work ethic.
Testimony in the case, the first in the Bonusgate corruption scandal, is expected to wrap up tomorrow or early Thursday, Dauphin County President Judge Richard A. Lewis said.
The prosecution rested its case today.
"I don't even have to say it, people tell me how good he is," Ramaley's mother, Christine Ramaley, said. "He's very honest. Everyone felt he was hard-working."
During cross-examination, state attorney general prosecutor Anthony Krastek asked Christine Ramaley how she could be in a position to know her son did work at Veon's office when he left the house every day at 9 a.m. She said she only could believe what he told her and that her son would never lie to her.
The defense also called Ramaley's priest to the stand.
